The Organization
Al-Kauser Welfare Society, is purely a Non-Profitable, Non-Religious, Non-Political, and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), working for the community development with special emphasis on Education and Gender Issues at the grass root level in Pakistan. Al-Kauser Welfare Society was established in 1995 with its Headquarters at Lahore and branches in Provincial Capital of Sindh (Karachi), Federal Capital Islamabad and Multan as a centre for outreach to Southern Punjab.
Since its inception, Al-Kauser Welfare Society has been addressing issues facing poor families and providing woman-centered services mainly that support women in making positive changes in their lives. Our strategies seek to build people's capacities, leadership and confidence. We train women and men, equipping them with the skills, methods and knowledge needed to take self-reliant actions to improve their lives and conditions in their communities. Women bear almost all responsibility for meeting basic needs of the family, yet are systematically denied the resources, information and freedom of action they need to fulfill this responsibility.
The vast majority of the world's poor are women. Two-thirds of the world's illiterates are female. Of the millions of school age children not in school, the majority are girls. The current world food price crisis is having a severe impact on women. Around the world, millions of people eat two or three times a day, but a significant percentage of women eat only once. And, now, many women are denying themselves even that one meal to ensure that their children are fed. These women are already suffering the effects of even more severe malnutrition, which inevitably will be their children's fate as well. The impact of this crisis will be with us for many years. Studies show that when women are supported and empowered, all of society benefits. Their families are healthier, more children go to school, agricultural productivity improves and incomes increase. In short, communities become more resilient.
AKWS possesses a well-qualified team of highly professional and dedicated individuals. These individuals laid down the foundation of AKWS in 1995.
AKWS recognizes the condition of the prevailing Education System and Gender Based issues particularly Gender Discrimination, therefore as an Independent Community Based Organization it is providing information; support services and programs for deprived communities, recognize and address issues of concern to women and their families through community development, education and skills development. We work together mainly with women in our community to create a just and equitable society.
